Morning Routine 2024

I’ve written about my morning routine in the past, but it’s been on my mind this week. On Sunday at church, the men’s group I’m a part of had a discussion about morning routines. A few people broke down their morning routines, and I was grateful to not be put on the spot. I feel like I have to read mine off because it’s so detailed.

My morning routine has evolved over the years, but the foundational habits are the same. After completing my morning routine, I usually feel that whatever happens the rest of the day doesn’t matter because I have crushed the morning. It’s actually when I schedule something too early or don’t feel well and don’t complete my morning routine that the day starts wrong.

Here is my current routine:

  1. Brush my teeth.

  2. Drink my greens. I’m currently drinking AG1, but I have tried three or four others in the past. I’ll have to write about greens in the future.

  3. Get natural sunlight. Doing this within the first 60 minutes of the day is so important, as taught by Andrew Huberman.

  4. Exercise. I exercise for 20-60 minutes, depending on the day.

  5. Pray.

  6. Journal. My journaling practice includes gratitude, affirmations and some planning for the day. Click here to view my current journal outline.

  7. Read my scriptures. I dive into the Bible and Book of Mormon for 30-60 minutes each day.

  8. Sit in the sauna. I spend 10-30 minutes in the sauna. If I have time for a full 30 minutes, I split the time as follows: 10 minutes for prayer and pondering, 10 minutes for meditation, and 10 minutes to listen to part of an audiobook or podcast.

  9. Cold plunge. I try to cold plunge for 3 minutes. I do 60 to 90 seconds after a 10-minute sauna session.

  10. Read. The last couple months since getting the sauna and cold plunge, my reading time has been gobbled up. I’m not complaining but adapting. It’s so hard to do everything.

I still pretty much follow the SAVERS approach from Hal Elrod’s Miracle Morning, but I have modified the old routine slightly.

I’m a huge fan of adding in new features or making changes, but I don’t ever want my morning routine to feel like a grind. I want to be able to look forward to my routine.
